It wasn't so long ago that brands like Alpina, and AC Schnitzer were mentioned in the same conversation as Hartge. Whilst (sadly) no longer trading Hartge took the same philosophy as some other big-name BMW tuners and sought to elevate the looks, dynamics, and performance of 'normal' BMWs to levels surpassing those of the full-fat M models.
In partnership with Birds Garage this Hartge Z4 uses the most powerful N54 engined '35i' car as a base, but thanks to some mild ECU tweaking delivers a very useful 366BHP. The relationship between the two companies doesn't stop here, however, with a B4 suspension conversion and Quaife LSD transforming the car's dynamics and road behaviour. A Hartge styling conversion, 19" Ultima wheels, and sport rear silencers complete the package.
This is the believed to be the final BMW in the UK converted to full Hartge specification; as a result it's likely to prove quite collectable, but isn't some ultra valuable artwork to be hidden away. Thanks to the well developed upgrades it's extremely potent and very enjoyable to drive. Reviews and media coverage of the Birds converted BMWs are plentiful and the products very widely liked. It's a bit of Birds history, it's a bit of Hartge history, and where every show makes conventionally rare BMWs look common you can guarantee you'll be the only one in a Hartge Z4.
As you would hope for such a low mileage, cherished car it's a lovely thing to behold. Cosmetically there is but a very fine patina to the overwelmingly original paintwork, and the interior (thanks to new driver's seat back leather) is virtually perfect. The alloy wheels are unmarked and fitted with a set of Continental tyres. There are no warning lights on, and a road test highlights no issues. This car has been owned by Birds Garage for more than 10 years, and used sparingly in this time.
